The Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC), Oshodi, on Thursday held a free medical outreach for traders and residents of Ladipo Market in Lagos, marking the first 100 days in office of its Commandant, Air Vice Marshal Nnaemeka Ignatius Ilo.

The outreach, organized under the theme “Enhanced Security Through Corporate Social Responsibility,” provided a range of medical services, including consultations, laboratory tests, eye screening, dental care and preventive treatments for hundreds of traders and community members.

Speaking at the event, Ilo said the initiative was part of the military’s effort to strengthen civil-military relations while giving back to the host community.

“I consider it wise to organize this medical outreach as a way of giving back positively to the society within which we operate,” he said.

“A secure nation is built on the foundation of a healthy society, and this is our way of reaffirming that the Armed Forces is not only a shield for the people but also a partner in progress.”

The commandant praised Ladipo Market for its role in Nigeria’s economy, describing it as a hub of ingenuity, resilience and entrepreneurship.

“Every day, thousands of hardworking men and women gather here to provide services that keep vehicles running and businesses moving. Your dedication and enterprise are commendable,” he said.

Wing Commander Moses Okachukwu Anyadike, Commanding Officer of the NAFRC Medical Centre, said the outreach deployed a mobile health infrastructure to deliver services directly to the market.

“We moved the hospital to the market. We are providing medical consultations, blood sugar tests, HIV screening, eye and dental checks, cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccination for girls aged 9 to 14,” Enedike said.

He added that children under five received deworming treatment, while mosquito nets and essential medications were distributed free of charge.

Officials of the Ladipo International Market Association and Mushin Local Government commended the initiative, describing it as a strong example of military-community partnership.
