The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) announced that 600,000 to 700,000 electricity meters are currently available for nationwide distribution.
NERC Vice Chairman, Dr. Musiliu Oseni, disclosed this during his final NESI Stakeholders Meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.
He urged utility companies to boost meter rollout and publicity, stressing, “The government has made the investment, so the DisCos need to step up.”
Addressing sector challenges, Dr. Oseni warned DisCos to cooperate fully with emerging State Electricity Regulatory Commissions, stating, “No licensee is bigger than their regulator.”
He also clarified tenure misinformation, affirming that commissioners serve five-year terms under the Electricity Act.
