The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency has shut down Dai Jin Jia Quarry located in ACO Village along Airport Road in Abuja.

The action follows the death of a 10 year old boy during a blasting operation at the facility.

The incident occurred on February 27, 2026.

Speaking on behalf of the Director General Prof Innocent Barikor, the agency’s Director of Environmental Quality Control Elijah Udofia said the quarry allegedly continued operations despite earlier regulatory sanctions.

Udofia said preliminary investigations carried out alongside officers of the Nigeria Police Aco Division uncovered multiple compliance failures.

He disclosed that the quarry lacked a documented blasting operation plan.

He added that the company failed to provide records of Charge Load Density used during the blasting exercise, contrary to the National Environmental Quarrying and Blasting Operations Regulations 2013.

The agency also found that the facility’s warning alarm system meant to alert nearby residents ahead of blasting activities was faulty.

NESREA said the quarry had previously been sealed but remained non compliant with environmental regulations.

The agency assured that investigations are ongoing and pledged to hold all responsible parties accountable while urging operators nationwide to comply strictly with safety regulations.
