Nigeria’s men’s national football team, the Super Eagles, have climbed to 26th place in the latest FIFA World Rankings, their highest global position since 2010.
The Super Eagles moved up 12 places from 38th in the previous rankings released Monday by world football’s governing body.
The new position is Nigeria’s best in over 15 years, having last reached a comparable ranking in May 2010 when they were placed 21st globally.
Nigeria’s rise also places the Super Eagles third in Africa, behind Africa Cup of Nations champions Senegal, who climbed to 12th, and host nation Morocco, which broke into the world’s top 10 at eighth.
The improved ranking follows Nigeria’s strong showing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where the team finished third.
The Super Eagles went unbeaten in regulation time throughout the tournament and secured the bronze medal after defeating Egypt in a penalty shootout following a scoreless draw in the third-place playoff.
FIFA said the latest rankings reflect performances across competitive international matches, with Nigeria among the teams recording one of the highest point gains during the ranking period.
Globally, Spain retained the No. 1 position, followed by Argentina and France, while England and Brazil completed the top five.
The next FIFA World Rankings update is expected in April after the March international window.
