The Nigerian government is planning to give “Detty December” an official structure.
The Federal Executive Council proposed setting up a Presidential Task Force on Detty December to coordinate Nigeria’s fast-growing end-of-year tourism and festival economy.
The Minister of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, announced this after Thursday’s Council meeting at the Aso Rock Villa.
She said the task force will harmonise federal and state efforts to position Nigeria — especially Lagos — as a major global holiday destination.
“We know Detty December is just around the corner. These brands have been adopted as national catalysts for tourism and the creative industry,” Musawa said.
“It has now become a presidential initiative for Detty December.”
According to the minister, the task force will bring together key agencies in aviation, interior, power, and other sectors to improve logistics for international visitors and provide stronger support for Lagos State.
The Council also approved new national tourism brands developed by the National Council for Arts and Culture, including "Naija Season," a year-round lineup of festivals across all 36 states.
Musawa said the initiative is expected to attract more private-sector investment and boost Nigeria’s cultural influence globally.
