Nigeria’s economy grew by 3.98% in real terms in the third quarter of 2025, a slight improvement over the 3.86% recorded in the same period last year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The quarterly report showed mixed recovery across key sectors, with agriculture and industry posting stronger growth while services maintained the largest share of output. Aggregate GDP in real terms stood at N57.03 trillion in Q3 2025, up from N54.85 trillion a year earlier. Nominal output rose 18.12% year-on-year to N113.59 trillion.

The services sector contributed 53.02% to GDP, followed by agriculture at 31.21%. The NBS said the economy maintained moderate expansion despite ongoing constraints, highlighting growth in crop production, telecommunications, real estate, trade, and financial services.

The oil sector recorded 5.84% growth, slightly above Q3 2024’s 5.66%, with average crude production rising to 1.64 million barrels per day from 1.47 million barrels. However, it contracted 5.53% quarter-on-quarter and contributed 3.44% to GDP. The non-oil sector expanded 3.91%, outperforming both Q3 2024 and Q2 2025.

Agriculture grew 3.79%, led by crop production, while manufacturing slowed to 1.25%, and construction grew 5.57%. Trade rose 1.98%, and the ICT sector expanded 5.78%, driven by telecommunications and information services. Real estate grew 3.50% in real terms, and financial and insurance services surged 19.63%. Education and health grew modestly, while public administration expanded 2.12%.

Prince Adeyemi Adeniran, Statistician-General of the Federation, said the quarterly estimates are benchmarked to rebased national accounts to improve data quality and sectoral coverage.

Earlier this year, the International Monetary Fund revised Nigeria’s 2025 growth forecast upward to 3.9%, citing higher oil production, stronger investor confidence, and supportive fiscal policies.
