NiMet Forecasts Three-Day Thunderstorms, Rain Across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has released a three-day weather outlook, predicting widespread thunderstorms and rainfall across the country from Monday to Wednesday.

The forecast, issued on Sunday, advises residents and travelers to prepare for varying levels of precipitation and take necessary safety precautions.

Monday, September 1

The day is expected to begin with thunderstorms and moderate rainfall in parts of the northern states, including Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto, Gombe, Borno, and Yobe. By the afternoon and evening, these thunderstorms are forecast to intensify over Bauchi, Jigawa, Kano, Kaduna, Adamawa, Taraba, and Borno.

In the central region, light morning rains are likely over Plateau and Niger states. This will be followed by thunderstorms with moderate rains in Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) later in the day.

The southern region is expected to see cloudy skies in the morning with a chance of light rains over Cross River and Akwa Ibom. In the afternoon and evening, light rainfall is anticipated in Abia, Edo, Imo, Ebonyi, Delta, Rivers, and Bayelsa states.

Tuesday, September 2

Tuesday's forecast includes thunderstorms with moderate rains in the morning across Bauchi, Gombe, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Zamfara, Borno, Yobe, and Kebbi states. The afternoon and evening will see more thunderstorms over Kebbi, Sokoto, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Adamawa, Taraba, and Zamfara.

The central states of Plateau, Nasarawa, Niger, Kwara, and the FCT should expect cloudy skies and light morning rains, with widespread thunderstorms later in the day.

For the southern region, light morning rains are likely over Cross River and Akwa Ibom, while moderate rains are expected later in Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Ekiti, Abia, Imo, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Cross River states.

Wednesday, September 3

On Wednesday, the northern region is set for cloudy skies with periods of sunshine. Morning rains are expected in parts of Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Kaduna, with thunderstorms and moderate rainfall forecast for most of the region later in the day.

The central region will likely experience light morning rains over Niger, Kwara, and the FCT, followed by thunderstorms with light rains in the afternoon and evening across FCT, Plateau, Kogi, Benue, Niger, and Nasarawa.

The southern region is expected to have moderate rainfall throughout the day in most areas.

NiMet advises the public to stay updated with official weather reports, avoid driving during heavy rains, and secure loose objects due to potential strong winds.
