The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) warned Nigerians that parts of the country would experience a slight dust haze while many regions will face isolated thunderstorms and pockets of rainfall this week.

From Monday to Wednesday, Nigeria's weather will be unclement, and the national weather monitoring agency has urged motorists, aviators, people with respiratory problems and Nigerians in general to take caution.

NiMet said a slight dust haze with generally good visibility is expected over northern states including Borno, Zamfara, northern Kaduna, Yobe, Jigawa, Kano and Katsina. The Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa and Kogi, during the afternoon and evening hours, will experience thunderstorms. And in the south, cloudy conditions are expected in the morning with isolated thunderstorms and moderate rains likely later in the day over states such as Lagos, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and parts of the South-South.

The agency also cautioned that localised heavy downpours could cause flash flooding in vulnerable areas and urged residents in low-lying communities to remain alert. NiMet advised motorists to drive carefully and for people with asthma or other breathing illnesses to limit outdoor exposure during hazy periods.

NiMet said it will continue to issue daily outlooks and hazard watches as conditions evolve and asked the public to follow official NiMet channels for updates.
