Nurses across Nigeria under the aegis of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) have commenced a seven-day warning strike to protest poor welfare and deplorable working conditions in the country’s healthcare sector.

According to the nurses, the industrial action became necessary after repeated appeals to the Federal Government for better remuneration, improved workplace safety, and a halt to what they describe as “massive brain drain” fell on deaf ears.

NANNM President, Michael Nnachi, in a statement, urged the government to meet their demands within the seven-day window or risk an indefinite nationwide shutdown of nursing services.
