The Nigerian presidency has defended President Bola Tinubu’s visit to the United Kingdom, saying the trip was aimed at attracting investment, creating jobs and expanding opportunities for Nigerians.

The Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, said the visit was part of efforts to open Nigeria to greater economic engagement and global partnerships.

In a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Bwala said Nigeria cannot achieve growth and development by remaining inward-looking.

“Some people are saying, ‘Why go to the UK?’ Look, I hope you all know that you don’t grow and develop Nigeria by sitting at home and waiting,” he said.

He explained that the visit was designed to open doors for increased economic engagement, noting that it would lead to more investment inflows and job creation for Nigerians.

“This visit is about opening doors: more investment, more jobs, and more opportunities for our people,” he added.

Bwala further disclosed that the visit had strengthened Nigeria’s relationship with the United Kingdom, particularly with the commitment shown by King Charles III to partner with Nigeria in areas of mutual interest.

“His Majesty, King Charles has shown practicable commitment to partner with Nigeria on areas of mutual trust,” he stated.

According to him, President Tinubu’s engagements abroad are part of a broader strategy to reposition Nigeria on the global stage and ensure the country remains visible and competitive internationally.

He maintained that international engagements such as the UK visit are critical to advancing Nigeria’s economic and diplomatic interests, noting that such trips help promote investment, partnerships and national development.
