Residents of Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State disrupted a funeral service days after gunmen attacked the university community, with hundreds of youths and women protesting during the church gathering.
The protesters stormed the Evangelical Church, halting prayers and demanding the release of vigilante members arrested by security operatives investigating the attack, insisting some were detained while defending their homes.
Authorities later secured the release of the arrested youths following intervention by the state government, allowing the service to resume, while a government representative assured grieving families of efforts to investigate the killings and bring perpetrators to justice.
Community members, however, called for accountability and urged restraint, as families proceeded with individual burials amid concerns that ongoing arrests are compounding the grief of affected residents.
