About two months after Governor Nyesom Wike promised to promote civil servants in Rivers State before leaving office, some workers say they are yet to receive any letter of promotion.
They also say they have not received any increment in their salaries to reflect the promotion.
Speaking anonymously, they say they expected an increase in their April salaries since their promotion interviews have been concluded by the Rivers State Civil Service Commission.
They are, however, optimistic that the state government will include their promotion benefits while paying their May salaries.
“I am not part of the panel but I know that it must reflect in salaries; since the promotion has been done, without even giving the letter, they can do other works to make sure that it reflects in salaries by this month,” acivil servant said.
“Nobody has been paid but I believe by this month's salary everything will commence; promotion letter has not been given to anybody for now.
“There was no way it would have been feasible last month because as at the time of the promotion - time of working out how much and all that - it was not feasible; so this month, he (Governor Wike) will pay,” he added.
On 13 March, Governor Nyesom Wike charged the Civil Service Commission under the chairmanship of a former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works, Clifford Ndu Walter, to conclude all promotion and employment processes within a month.
He said this at the swearing-in of members of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission.
He disclosed it was in fulfillment of a promise to promote serving workers and employ an additional 10,000 into the civil service.
