Prominent activist Omoyele Sowore has announced plans to lead a protest under the hashtag #FreeNNAMDIKANUNow on October 20 in Abuja, calling for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In a statement released Monday, Sowore said the protest is intended to amplify demands for due process, justice, and full respect for human rights in Kanu’s ongoing legal case.

He called on civil society groups, political figures, and concerned Nigerians to join the demonstration.

The protest announcement adds another chapter to the growing public and legal pressures surrounding Kanu’s detention, with recent court proceedings adjourned due to delays in medical reporting by the Nigerian Medical Association.

Security agencies have not yet commented on the planned rally, but authorities are likely to monitor closely, given past tensions surrounding protests linked to the IPOB cause.
