Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has named a 54-man provisional squad for the 35th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Morocco, confirming a blend of experienced internationals and promising home-based talents.
The Nigeria Football Federation announced the list across its platforms on Tuesday.
Captain William Troost-Ekong, striker Victor Osimhen, midfielders Wilfred Ndidi and Stanley Nwabali headline the squad. Established internationals such as Maduka Okoye, Zaidu Sanusi, Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi, and Samuel Chukwueze also feature prominently.
Chelle has notably included home-based players like Abdulrasheed Shehu and Ebenezer Harcourt, signalling his intent to explore local talent ahead of the tournament.
The final 28-man squad will be selected in the coming days.
The team is set to begin training camp in Egypt on December 10, preparing through warm-up matches before AFCON kicks off on December 21.
Nigeria has been drawn in Group C alongside Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda, as they aim for a strong tournament showing in Morocco.
Coach Chelle said, “This provisional list balances experience with fresh talent, giving us options and depth as we prepare to compete at the highest level.”
