As Muslims celebrate Eid al-Fitr, Nigerian leaders have called for sustained prayers for national security, peace and unity amid the country’s challenges.
The leaders, in separate messages to mark the end of Ramadan, stressed the need for collective responsibility, urging citizens to remain committed to nation-building despite differences in politics and faith.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu urged renewed dedication to humanity and national development, calling on Muslims to uphold the lessons of the holy month.
“We have a lot to draw from the noble lessons of Ramadan, especially at a time like this. We must continue to abide by the virtues of piety, selflessness, perseverance, kindness and compassion beyond this period,” he said.
Tinubu also encouraged acts of generosity and urged continued prayers for peace and prosperity in the country.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio called for unity and compassion, urging Nigerians to support one another and promote harmony, especially towards the less privileged.
Similarly, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, noting that the values of Ramadan should guide national renewal.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar called on the Federal Government to prioritise security and address economic hardship affecting citizens.
“The protection of the lives and property of citizens is a divine decree and the sole responsibility of every government.
“A greater number of people are being crushed by the economic downturn and global events in the past three weeks have further exacerbated the situation."
Atiku also urged Muslims to sustain the spirit of piety, peace and charity beyond Ramadan.
Former Presidential candidate, Peter Obi urged Nigerians to carry forward the lessons of Ramadan in their daily lives.
“This occasion is a profound reminder of the power of faith, discipline, selflessness, and unwavering devotion to Almighty Allah".
“These lessons of compassion, humility, patience, and solidarity must not end with the month; may they continue to guide our hearts, our actions, and our shared life as Nigerians.
Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu urged continued prayers for peace and stability, calling for unity among citizens.
“Let us continue to remember our state, our nation, and the countless souls around the world who look to Allah for peace, mercy, and guidance. Let us be steadfast in prayers for continued peace and stability in Nigeria".
“As we approach another important juncture in our democratic journey, let us humbly ask the Almighty Allah to grant peace across the land, to guide those entrusted with leadership with wisdom and fairness, and to ensure that our collective actions reflect justice, unity, and the common good for all.”
Other leaders, including governors and political figures across the country, echoed similar sentiments, urging Nigerians to remain united and continue praying for the country’s peace, security and development.
