President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given the country’s new military chiefs a clear marching order — crush any armed group threatening Nigeria’s peace.
Speaking after decorating the new service chiefs at the State House in Abuja, the President told them to take “decisive action” and move swiftly against emerging threats.
“We must crush emerging armed groups before they take root,” Tinubu warned.
The directive follows a major reshuffle in Nigeria’s defence leadership, signaling what the Presidency describes as a renewed push to restore security across the country.
Responding on behalf of the service chiefs, the new Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, promised to intensify the fight against terrorism and criminality, while pledging loyalty to the President and the nation’s democracy.
At the ceremony, General Oluyede was decorated with his new rank, alongside other top officers, Lieutenant General Wahidi Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff, and Air Marshal Kelvin Aneke as Chief of Air Staff.
Their spouses assisted in the decoration, in a brief event attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and other senior government officials.
