The Lagos Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal has affirmed the re-election of Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for a second term of four years.

On Monday, the tribunal dismissed the petition of the Labour Party (LP) and its candidate in the 18 March governorship poll, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, for lacking in merit.

Rhodes-Vivour had alleged that the governor was not elected by a majority of the votes cast in the election.

He also accused INEC of not complying with the Electoral Act 2022 and Sanwo-Olu’s running mate, Obafemi Hamzat, of ineligibility to run.

He wanted the court to nullify the election.

The tribunal’s verdict was delivered around 8:45 p.m.

The panel had earlier dismissed the petitions brought by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and its governorship candidate, Olajide Adediran, challenging Sanwo-Olu’s victory.
