A truck driver has died following a multiple-vehicle collision early Friday morning on Otedola Bridge, inward Secretariat, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, Lagos State traffic authorities have confirmed.

The crash involved two heavy-duty trailers — one carrying sand and the other loaded with granite — which reportedly collided as the drivers struggled for right of way, trapping the driver of the sand-laden truck who sustained fatal injuries.

Rescue teams from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) extricated the victim and rushed him to the General Hospital in Ikeja where he was pronounced dead, while emergency responders including LASAMBUS and police worked to clear wreckage and manage gridlock that paralysed traffic on the busy expressway.

About 50 metres from the initial crash site, a separate trailer fully loaded with flour also overturned, spilling its load and worsening traffic congestion along the already blocked carriageway as emergency responders worked to clear the scene and divert motorists.

Emergency and traffic officials including LASTMA, LASAMBUS and police were deployed to manage rescue, recovery and diversion efforts as gridlock extended back along the expressway.
