U.S. President Donald Trump said there is currently no need to deploy American ground troops in Iran, as he weighs whether to pursue a negotiated settlement with Tehran or consider further military action.

Speaking on the Pod Force One podcast with the New York Post, Trump said he faces a difficult choice between diplomacy and a more forceful approach but stressed that he would prefer a peaceful resolution.

“I’d rather do it the nice way from a humanitarian standpoint,” Trump said.

The president argued that recent military operations had significantly weakened Iran’s military capabilities, claiming airstrikes alone had inflicted substantial damage without requiring troops on the ground.

“You don’t need boots on the ground right now. We wiped out much of their military with just bombing. After three days their military was virtually wiped out,” Trump said.

He also criticized media coverage of the conflict, suggesting some reports understated the impact of the military campaign.

“And then if you read the New York Times, you think they’re doing fantastically,” he added.

Trump’s remarks come amid heightened tensions between the United States and Iran, with Washington continuing to assess its next steps as concerns grow over regional stability and the potential for further escalation.

While emphasizing that diplomacy remains his preferred option, Trump warned that military action remains on the table if negotiations fail.

“I’d rather do it the nice way,” he said, adding that “the other way is not nice.”

The White House has not announced any decision on additional military operations, and U.S. officials continue to monitor developments in the region closely.
