The United States Embassy in Nigeria has issued a security alert warning of possible protests in Abuja on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, citing tensions linked to the ongoing conflict with Iran.

In the advisory, the Embassy urged U.S. citizens in the Federal Capital Territory to remain indoors, noting that past protests have led to violent clashes with Nigerian security forces.

Americans were advised to avoid protest areas and large gatherings, monitor local media for updates, and maintain a low profile. The mission also encouraged citizens to review personal security plans, keep phones charged, carry valid identification, and stay alert in public places such as shopping malls and places of worship.

The Embassy further recommended familiarizing themselves with emergency exits in buildings and varying travel routes and times to reduce predictability.

It said its Consular Section in Abuja and the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos remain open. Citizens were encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program for regular updates.

For assistance, the Embassy in Abuja can be reached at +234 209 461 4328 during business hours and +234 209 461 4000 after hours. The Consulate General in Lagos is available at +234 201 460 3400.
