Nigerian-American racing sensation Ugo Ugochukwu has emerged champion of the 2026 Formula Regional Oceania Championship, capping off an outstanding season in New Zealand with a dominant display of skill and consistency.

The 18-year-old driver sealed the title after the final round of the championship, finishing the season with four race victories and podium finishes across multiple rounds.

His performances ensured he ended the campaign 15 points clear of his closest rival, Audi Formula 1 junior Freddie Slater.

Despite facing a setback during the final weekend due to a technical breach linked to a suspension issue in qualifying, Ugochukwu showed remarkable composure.

He recovered strongly during the races, earning enough points to officially clinch the championship crown.

Speaking after securing the title, Ugochukwu expressed gratitude to his team, describing the season as “an amazing campaign” and praising the collective effort that delivered the championship success.

Born in New York, Ugochukwu holds Nigerian and American heritage.

He is the son of renowned Nigerian fashion model Oluchi Onweagba and Italian fashion designer Luca Orlandi.

With the Formula Regional Oceania title now secured, Ugochukwu is set to continue his development in single-seater racing.

He will compete in the FIA Formula 3 Championship for a second season with Campos Racing, with the new campaign scheduled to begin at the Australian Grand Prix in March.

Ugochukwu’s latest achievement further strengthens his reputation as one of the most promising young drivers of Nigerian descent in global motorsport, as he continues to fly the Nigerian flag on the international stage.
