Umunze Women Protest Ritual Killing of 72-Year-Old Woman

Thousands of women from Umunze Community in Orumba South Local Government Area protested on Tuesday over the death of a septuagenarian, Charity Akuoye Okoli, whose body parts were harvested for rituals.

Her assailants cut her nipples, genitals, lips, and fingers when they attacked her at her residence in Umunze last week.

The primary suspect, a palm tree cutter, Onyebuchi Ezeh, said a witch doctor promised to turn them him and two accomplices into billionaires.

The victim was rushed to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital in Awka where she died of her injuries.

The women leader of the community, Bridget Enekwechi, led her colleagues to the local government headquarters to seek justice for the deceased.

She demanded the expulsion of the suspect and his family from Umunze.

The Acting President-General of Umunze Progressive Union, Hypolite Oluah, assured the women that the union would follow through to ensure that justice is done on the matter.

The Anambra State government also assured the people of Umunze community that the suspects will face the law.

The state commissioner for women affairs and social welfare, Ify Obinabo made the commitment in an interview with our reporter.
