The University of Port Harcourt has dismissed as false and misleading, rumours circulating on social media about a snake being killed in a classroom and described as a deity.
In a statement issued by the institution’s spokesperson, Dr. Sammy Kpenu, the University described the claims as baseless and the work of mischief-makers seeking attention and popularity online.
Dr. Kpenu clarified that no such incident occurred on campus and urged students, staff, and the general public to disregard the rumour and stop spreading fake news.
He assured that the University remains a safe and secure environment for learning and research, and said measures are being taken to track those behind the false reports.
UNIPORT is also encouraging the public to rely only on official communication channels for accurate information.
