AGF Takes Over Prosecution of Mike Ozekhome in UK Property Forgery Case

The office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) has formally taken over prosecution of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Mike Ozekhome after the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) filed criminal charges relating to a disputed London property.

The transfer was announced in Federal Capital Territory court when Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, told the bench the AGF would assume the case.

Court papers state that Ozekhome will answer to a three-count charge that accuses him of receiving the London house at 79 Randall Avenue by corrupt means and of making and using a false Nigerian passport — passport number A07535463 — to support a claim of ownership.

The alleged offences are said to have occurred in August 2021.

Oyedepo told the court the AGF will prosecute the matter “with the highest standard of efficiency, effectiveness, diligence and compliance with due process of law,” and asked time for the office to study the file; the ICPC counsel did not oppose the application.

The judge adjourned the case to 24th February 2026 for arraignment.

The charges follow a September 2025 London First-Tier Tribunal finding that the dispute was built on “forgery and deception,” and concluded that the late Gen. Jeremiah Useni — not Ozekhome or a mysterious “Tali Shani” — was the true owner.

Judge Ewan Paton said the tribunal’s evidence showed a web of false identity documents.

The ICPC has listed investigators and officials as witnesses and says the probe was triggered by a petition alleging the fabrication of NINs, passports and other records.

The AGF’s move to take over signals the federal government’s intent to handle the matter centrally as investigations and possible prosecutions continue.
