Amnesty International Nigeria has demanded a thorough and impartial investigation into the alleged killing of at least nine women protesters by the military in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Isa Sanusi, Director of Amnesty International Nigeria, condemned the military’s use of live ammunition without warning during the protest, describing it as unlawful.
“Those injured were shot in different parts of the body head, neck, back, chest, shoulder, legs, arms and some suffered multiple gunshot wounds,” he said.
Sanusi also highlighted the ongoing ethnic conflict between the Bachama and Chobo communities, sparked by land disputes and motorcycle theft, which has fueled escalating violence.
“The government’s response has been slow and ineffective, and when security forces intervene, they often use excessive force, causing further deaths and destruction,” he added.
He warned that the failure to properly investigate these human rights abuses is eroding respect for human life in Nigeria, urging authorities to act decisively to restore peace and uphold justice.
The incident occurred on December 8, 2025, amid rising communal tensions in the region.
