Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), has praised Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal for providing armoured vehicles, surveillance drones and other equipment to security forces fighting insecurity in the state.

The commendation came on Wednesday during a ceremony at the Government House in Gusau, where the governor formally handed over the equipment to troops.

According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the state procured 25 Armoured Personnel Carriers to improve troop safety in high-risk areas.

The equipment also includes a long-endurance surveillance drone with an 80-metre flight capacity, able to cover 50 kilometres and operate for eight hours continuously, the statement said.

Speaking at the event, Governor Lawal said the items reflect closer cooperation between the federal government and Zamfara State.

“For years, Zamfara State faced a security crisis disrupting life,” he said, noting that farming, travel and economic activity suffered.

Lawal said his administration has moved to “structured reform” through better funding, coordination with security agencies and the creation of Community Protection Guards to boost intelligence gathering.

“As an administration, we spare no expense to ensure the logistical support our security agencies on the ground receive,” he said.

He added that the state has already distributed 150 Hilux vehicles, 20 Toyota Buffaloes, and over 600 motorcycles to security agencies to improve response time.

The Defence Minister described the investment as a strong signal to criminals.

“It takes courage and firm conviction for subnational leadership to commit substantial resources towards strengthening public safety,” Musa said.

He added, “The protection of lives and properties rises above party lines.”

Musa said the equipment shows the governor’s determination and sends “a strong message to criminals,” while urging proper use and maintenance of the assets.
