Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a 25-year-old woman, Nafisa Usman, for allegedly supplying ammunition to bandits operating in parts of northern Nigeria.

Security sources said Usman was arrested at a major motor park in Kano, where she was found with 200 rounds of ammunition. The items were reportedly transported from Lafia in Nasarawa State and were heading to Kankara in Katsina State.

According to the source, the arrest followed “actionable intelligence” that tracked her movement and activities.

“Nafisa, a native of Zango village in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, was intercepted before completing the delivery allegedly meant for bandits operating in the Kankara forest,” the source said.

The suspect reportedly confessed to being involved in the illegal trade for about two months.

She said the ammunition was given to her by a man identified as ‘Teso,’ who she claimed works with a military operative based in Lafia.

“She revealed that the ammunition was handed to her by an individual identified as ‘Teso,’” the source added.

Usman also admitted that she had facilitated over ₦5 million worth of deals, using the Unguwa Uku motor park in Kano to transport supplies to Katsina.

“The supplies were intended for a bandit leader known as Mallam Haruna,” the source said, adding that she also supplied ammunition to others identified as Buba and Abu.

She further disclosed that she was introduced to the network by a Kano-based livestock trader, Sulaiman.

The DSS said the operation highlights its ongoing efforts to “dismantle criminal networks” and cut off illegal arms supply chains.
