Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have taken former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, into custody following court proceedings in Kaduna, as his legal battle over alleged corruption charges continues.

El-Rufai was detained shortly after appearing before the Federal High Court in Kaduna, where arguments on his bail application were heard.

The court, however, reserved its ruling until 14th April, prolonging uncertainty over his release.

His lead counsel, Oluwole Iyamu (SAN), confirmed that the bail application had been fully argued and expressed hope for a favourable outcome.

He said the defence remains optimistic that the court will grant bail when it delivers its decision.

Security presence was tight around the court premises ahead of the hearing, with armed operatives restricting movement and limiting access to the courtroom.

El-Rufai is facing multiple charges filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), including allegations of abuse of office, fraud, and conferring undue advantage.

The charges form part of a broader legal challenge that has kept the former governor in and out of custody in recent weeks.

Earlier proceedings in the case had seen adjournments and legal arguments over motions filed by the defence, including a request for the trial judge to step aside, which was later withdrawn.

The case has drawn widespread public attention, coming amid ongoing political developments involving the former governor and his recent alignment with opposition forces.

With the 14th April date set, attention now turns to the court’s decision on whether El-Rufai will be granted bail or remain in custody as the trial continues.
