The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied reports claiming that popular Nigerian comedian Emmanuel Ejekwu, known as Sabinus, is on its wanted list.

In a statement posted on its official social media page on Thursday, the anti-graft agency described a viral “wanted” poster of the comedian as fake and misleading.

The commission clearly stamped the poster “FAKE NEWS” and warned those responsible to stop spreading false information.

“Clout chaser, stop this now!” the EFCC said in its response to the viral post.

The doctored poster, which circulated widely on social media, carried the EFCC logo and falsely claimed that Sabinus was wanted for obtaining money by false pretence.

It also included a supposed address in Victoria Island, Lagos, giving the impression that it was genuine.

The EFCC stressed that it has not declared the comedian wanted and has not issued any warrant against him.

The agency also urged the public to rely on verified information from official sources.

Sabinus, who is well known for his comedy skits and online content, has not publicly responded to the development as of the time of this report.

The commission repeated its warning about the dangers of fake news, noting that such false claims can mislead the public and harm reputations.
