The Federal Government has dismissed some criticisms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his policies during preparations for his planned state visit to the United Kingdom.

Speaking in London, Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said many of the comments about the president’s policies are based on wrong information or political motives.

Idris spoke during a meeting with members of the international media as part of activities ahead of Tinubu’s official visit.

“The Federal Government has dismissed some of the criticisms directed at the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the minister said.

He described the attacks as largely coming from “misinformation and deliberate mischief.”

According to him, some people criticising the administration do not fully understand the government’s economic reforms and policy direction.

Tinubu’s government has introduced several economic changes since taking office in 2023, including reforms to Nigeria’s fuel subsidy system and foreign exchange market.

Supporters say the changes are necessary to stabilise the economy, while critics argue they have increased hardship for many Nigerians.

Idris said the government believes the reforms will bring long-term benefits to the country, even if they cause short-term challenges.

The minister also used the media meeting to explain Nigeria’s policy direction and highlight the government’s plans to improve economic growth, investment, and international partnerships.

President Tinubu’s visit to the UK is expected to include high-level meetings with British officials and business leaders.

Analysts say the trip could strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

Officials say the government will continue to engage critics and the international community to explain its policies and reforms.
