Nigeria’s Finance Minister, Wale Edun, has received a major royal honour from King Charles the Third.

Edun was named a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order in the King’s 2026 New Year Honours list released on December 30.

The award recognises his long-standing work in youth development, not his role in Nigeria’s economic reforms.

Edun has served for over a decade as an International Trustee of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation.

He currently chairs the board of the International Award for Young People Nigeria.

The Royal Victorian Order is a special honour.

It is awarded personally by the British monarch to people who have given distinguished service to the Royal Family.

With this honour, Edun becomes the most prominent Nigerian to receive the award since former Commonwealth Secretary General Emeka Anyaoku in 2000.

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the minister, describing the recognition as exceptional.

The President says the honour reflects his administration’s focus on youth empowerment and national renewal.
