The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has praised the state government for bringing back the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.
The party said the move shows “responsible and responsive governance” aimed at protecting public health and keeping the city clean.
In a statement on Sunday, the Lagos APC spokesman, Seye Oladejo, said the decision by the Lagos State Government will help improve environmental hygiene and encourage residents to take part in keeping their communities clean.
“The re-introduction of the sanitation exercise is a clear demonstration of responsible and responsive governance aimed at safeguarding public health, promoting environmental cleanliness, and strengthening community participation in maintaining a livable city,” Oladejo said.
He noted that Lagos is one of Africa’s fastest-growing cities and needs the support of residents to keep the environment safe and healthy.
“Lagos, as one of Africa’s most vibrant and rapidly growing megacities, requires collective commitment to environmental sustainability,” he said.
Oladejo also recalled that the sanitation exercise once played an important role in teaching residents to keep their surroundings clean.
“For decades, the environmental sanitation exercise played a vital role in instilling a culture of cleanliness and civic responsibility among residents,” he said, adding that its return will help address sanitation problems and improve awareness about proper waste disposal and drainage maintenance.
The APC spokesman called on residents, community groups, and civil society organisations to support the program.
“Environmental sustainability is a shared responsibility, and the success of this exercise depends largely on the cooperation and active participation of all Lagosians,” Oladejo said.
He added that the party believes the policy will help make Lagos “a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable megacity.”
