The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors has suspended its nationwide strike and directed members to resume work, while issuing a two-week ultimatum to the Federal Government.

The strike was triggered by the government’s suspension of a revised Professional Allowance Table previously agreed with the doctors.

Following an emergency meeting, NARD President Mohammad Usman Suleiman said the union decided to temporarily halt the industrial action after receiving fresh assurances from the government.

However, the association warned that the suspension is conditional and may be reversed if its demands are not met by April 21.

Key demands include payment of salary and promotion arrears, as well as adequate funding for the 2026 medical residency training programme.

The development is expected to ease pressure on hospitals, where services had been disrupted during the strike.
