The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency says its operatives have intercepted cocaine and opioid consignments hidden in cartons bound for the United Kingdom and Australia, while also destroying 65,000 kilograms of skunk in Delta State forests.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said the seizures were made during operations carried out across several states in the past week.

According to the agency, officers at a Lagos courier company on Friday recovered “170 grams of cocaine sealed in cellophane parcels and buried in the walls of a carton of cloths heading to Australia.”

Another shipment going to the UK contained “200 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 1,100 capsules of tramadol and 100 ampoules of promethazine injection,” the statement said.

In Delta State, NDLEA operatives raided farms in Ukwuani and Ughelli North local government areas, where they destroyed large cannabis plantations.

“This brings the total weight of skunk destroyed by NDLEA operatives supported by soldiers in the two operations to 65,000 kilograms,” Babafemi said.

The agency also said its officers intercepted 1,989 rounds of military-grade ammunition hidden inside bags of garri along the Abuja-Kaduna highway.

A suspect, Abdullahi Hassan, 35, was arrested and later handed over to another security agency for further investigation.

In Abuja, NDLEA arrested a businessman, Ogadi Peter, 29, accused of producing “drug-laced cakes and cookies for parties and social gatherings.”

The agency said officers recovered 800 grams of skunk and 2.7 kilograms of drug-laced cookies from his home in the Life Camp area of the Federal Capital Territory.

Other arrests and drug seizures were recorded in Ogun, Taraba, Oyo, Edo and Kano states.

NDLEA Chairman Mohamed Buba Marwa praised officers involved in the operations and urged commands nationwide to continue balancing “drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction efforts.”
