Family members, Nollywood stars, government officials and admirers gathered in Arochukwu, Abia State, on Thursday to pay their final respects to actor Alexx Ekubo, who died last month at the age of 40 after battling advanced kidney cancer.

The actor, born Alex Ikenna Ekubo Okwaraeke, was buried at his family residence in Ujari Village following a funeral service attended by colleagues from across Nigeria's film industry.

Among those present were Ini Edo, Omoni Oboli, Nancy Isime, Bimbo Ademoye, IK Ogbonna, AY Makun and businessman Obi Cubana.

Representing Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Chief of Staff Caleb Ajagba described the late actor as a cultural ambassador whose work brought pride to both Abia and Nigeria.

"The news of Alex's passing came as a profound shock," Ajagba said.

"Today, we mourn not merely an actor, brother and friend, but a creative force, a cultural ambassador and a proud son of Arochukwu whose talent brought honour to Abia State and Nigeria."

Ajagba added that Ekubo inspired many young people through his determination and creativity, noting that his contributions to Nollywood would be remembered for years.

During the service, Pastor Eno Jerry Eze urged mourners to focus on the impact people make during their lives rather than the number of years they live.

Actress Oluchi Chiana, popularly known as Stainless, also paid tribute, saying: "He was a good man, and his passing has left us deeply saddened."

Ekubo, known for roles in several hit Nollywood productions, leaves behind a legacy as one of the industry's most recognizable and beloved stars.
