Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has commended Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal for his developmental strides, describing them as impressive and impactful.

Obasanjo made the remarks on Tuesday during a working visit to Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, where he commissioned the remodelled Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital and two newly completed roads.

The former president said he was particularly surprised that the hospital is now equipped with a functioning CT scan and MRI machine—equipment he says are lacking in some teaching hospitals across the country.

“I’m proud to commission this improved facility for the people of Zamfara,” Obasanjo said. “It’s clear the state is heading in the right direction under Governor Lawal’s leadership.”

The governor, in his address, said the upgraded specialist hospital now includes modern doctors’ quarters, expanded departments, new diagnostic tools, and improved infrastructure to support advanced medical care, training, and research.

The governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, released the statement.

Governor Lawal also noted that the hospital landscape has been redesigned to enhance patient comfort, and that 14 key departments have been renovated and fully equipped with cutting-edge tools across various medical fields.

Other projects commissioned by the former president include the Zannah to Abarma road and the Tsalha Bungudu to Kwanar Birnin Ruwa road—all within Gusau.
