The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, visited President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Friday and praised the president's leadership in a short interview clip that circulated online on Saturday.

The monarch said he came chiefly to thank Tinubu for attending his coronation and to discuss national concerns.

In the video, Oba Ladoja told reporters he believes Tinubu understands the work ahead for Nigeria.

“If you know from where he (Tinubu) is coming, you will know that he knows what he is doing. He was able to get Lagos from where it was to where he left it,” the Olubadan said, adding that insecurity is serious but “not insurmountable; we believe that the president is tackling it currently.”

Ladoja, who was installed as the 44th Olubadan in September 2025 and is a former governor of Oyo State, also urged the federal government to pay attention to food production and health-care infrastructure so Nigerians can access standard hospitals.

His courtesy call was his first official audience with Tinubu since ascending the throne, but details of the closed-door meeting were not released.

The visit comes after Ladoja has previously used his profile to press for development for Ibadan — including a past appeal for the creation of an Ibadan State — a request he has raised in public settings.
