Qatar has formally notified the United Nations and the UN Security Council of what it described as repeated drone and missile attacks by Iran, calling for urgent action to halt the escalation.

In two identical letters addressed to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the council president for April, Jamal Fares Al-Ruwaie, Qatar said the attacks between April 2 and April 6 targeted its territory and violated its sovereignty and regional stability. The letters were submitted by Qatar’s UN envoy, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani.

Qatar’s Defense Ministry reported that its armed forces intercepted multiple drones and cruise missiles launched on separate days, while a later missile interception caused debris to fall on a residential area, injuring four people and damaging property.

Doha said the attacks occurred despite the council’s adoption of Resolution 2817 (2026), which condemned earlier strikes and demanded an immediate halt. It urged the council to enforce the resolution and hold those responsible accountable.

Qatar also argued that the strikes targeted civilian areas, violating international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, and said Iran could be liable for compensation for damages.

The Gulf state reiterated its right to self-defense under international law, warning it would take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and citizens.
