President Bola Tinubu has defended his administration’s economic reforms and called for stronger international partnerships as he concluded visits to France, Kenya and Rwanda.

Tinubu returned to Lagos on Friday after attending the Africa CEO Forum in Kigali, Rwanda, and other meetings focused on investment, trade and economic reforms.

During a meeting with officials of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development on the sidelines of the forum, the OECD pledged support for Nigeria’s reform agenda through economic and investment data aimed at improving policy planning and investor confidence.

OECD Deputy Secretary-General Frantisek Ruzicka praised Tinubu’s reforms, saying, “We support and understand the pillars of your reforms.

"I think other leaders should learn from you.”

Tinubu said Nigeria’s decisions to remove fuel subsidies and unify foreign exchange rates were difficult but necessary.

“The removal of the subsidy was necessary.

"Yes, there was a fight back.

"Easy access is hard to give up,” the president said.

“Even the multiple exchange rates had to go.

"I have come to serve my people, not to benefit a few.”

The president also called for a change in how Africa is viewed globally.

“Africa’s risk perception must change.

"Africa must be disciplined and accountable over various projects,” he said.

While in Rwanda, Tinubu met with Nigerians living in the country, including academics, business owners and students.

He told them his administration would continue working to improve the country.

“Our reforms are working, and the economy is bright and stable,” Tinubu said.

“We owe every Nigerian, both at home and abroad, the provision of the enabling environment to break and lead in all spheres.”

He also urged Nigerians abroad to remain united and avoid ethnic divisions.

“Your tribe does not matter as you have no control over where you are born or who your parents are,” he said.

Tinubu returned to Lagos Friday evening and is expected to participate in the All Progressives Congress primary elections on Saturday.
