Preparations are underway for the state visit of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the United Kingdom, where he is expected to meet King Charles III and hold talks with British leaders to strengthen relations between the two countries.
Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, spoke about the trip during a briefing with international journalists in London.
He said the visit will combine “the ceremonial traditions of a royal welcome with high-level engagements aimed at strengthening economic, diplomatic and strategic ties between the two countries.”
Tinubu is expected to be hosted at Windsor Castle by King Charles III during the visit.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the meeting shows the strong relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
“Nigeria has historical ties with the UK from colonial rule to decolonisation,” Onanuga said, noting that both countries have maintained close diplomatic and economic links since Nigeria gained independence more than 60 years ago.
According to Onanuga, the visit will focus on trade, security cooperation and investment opportunities.
“There will be some bilaterals we are going to sign, especially on trade, commerce and industry, even military assistance,” he said.
Special Adviser, Media & Public Communication, Sunday Dare, added that trade between the two countries is already strong and could grow further after the visit.
“Trade between Nigeria and Britain is already about eight billion pounds a year.
“I expect it to increase further,” he said.
Officials also hope the talks will lead to agreements that make it easier for goods to move between both countries.
