The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, says the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is now united after the Supreme Court ended months of internal leadership disputes.

Speaking in Abuja after Thursday’s ruling, Wike said the court’s decision had settled all claims of rival factions within the opposition party.

“Today, the Supreme Court has brought to an end the so-called factions of the PDP. There is no more faction in the party.

"There is only one PDP,” Wike said.

The Supreme Court had earlier voided the PDP’s November 2025 national convention held in Ibadan, ruling that it was conducted in violation of existing court orders.

That convention had produced a rival leadership structure led by Kabiru Turaki.

The ruling effectively recognised the convention backed by Wike’s camp, which produced Abdulrahman Mohammed as party chairman.

“The Supreme Court has validated our convention and set aside all claims to any parallel structure,” Wike said.

“What this means is that the PDP has come to stay as one united party."

Wike also warned party members against future actions that could violate party rules.

“The fact that you are in a position does not mean you can act outside the law,” he said.

He described the judgment as “a victory for the rule of law and internal democracy,” adding that the PDP remains stable and ready to serve as Nigeria’s main opposition force ahead of future elections.

Meanwhile, the PDP Board of Trustees, led by Senator Adolphus Wabara, has assumed control of the party following the ruling.
