A Threat Against Obi is a Threat Against All of Us- Atiku

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar says any form of threat against former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi is a threat to all.

He stated this on Tuesday in a short post on his X handle.

He said: "Let it be known that a threat against Peter Obi or any of us is a threat against ALL of us!"

Atiku’s comments comes in the wake of comments by Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo who cautioned Obi against visiting the state without obtaining security clearance.

Obi was in Edo State on July 7, where he donated ₦15 million to St. Philomena Hospital School of Nursing Sciences for ongoing infrastructure projects.

His visit, however, coincided with reported security incidents in parts of the state, leading to Governor Okpebholo raising concerns.

However, his remarks received public criticism.

Subsequently, the Governor denied he had issued any threat to Peter Obi.

In a statement released on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Governor Okpebholo said his comments were misrepresented and clarified that there was no intention to threaten the former Anambra State governor.

“The attention of the Edo State Government has been drawn to various misinterpretations surrounding the recent remarks made by His Excellency, the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, regarding the visit of Mr. Peter Obi,” the statement read.

“It is imperative to state clearly that the Governor did not issue any form of threat to Mr. Obi, but rather emphasized the need for high-profile individuals, particularly politically exposed persons to notify and seek security clearance before embarking on any public engagements within the State.”
