Nentawe Yilwatda Emerges as APC National Chairman

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Nentawe Yilwatda, has emerged as the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC)

His appointment was officially announced on Thursday during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja, where party leaders gathered to strategise ahead of the 2027 general election.

Yilwatda’s emergence was adopted as a consensus decision, a move described by party insiders as both pragmatic and symbolic, reflecting the APC’s efforts to strengthen internal unity ahead of critical governorship elections in Edo, Ondo, and Kogi.

He succeeds Abdullahi Ganduje, who stepped down from the role on June 27.

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State moved the motion for his appointment, which was seconded by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.

A former governorship candidate in Plateau State and respected academic, Yilwatda is seen as a technocrat with grassroots appeal. His appointment is expected to usher in a quieter but more strategic leadership era within the APC as it prepares for electoral contests and internal reforms.
