What Does Your Culture Say About Burial Rights?

A popular definition of culture is that it is the way of life of a group of people. It is what defines them and makes them unique.

Culture encompasses religion, food, what we wear, how we wear it, our language, marriage, music and it is different all over the world.

However, as beautiful as that sounds, it is not without its downsides especially on the African continent, more so as regards burial rights.

On today's edition of Family Talk on Whaats Up Lagos with the Tekes, the various aspects to our cultures in Nigeria that needs to be changed if not abolished when it comes to death/burial rights formed the basis of the conversation.

Simply put, what does your culture say about burial rights?

Airing his thoughts, a caller recounts his experience during his father's burial. For him, the regret is staying away from his hometown for a long time.

He said, "In 2019 when my father died, they (the villagers) brought out their register and gave us a backlog of bills to pay, it was disgusting."

"When that happened, I told my wife, if I die in Canada, bury me in Canada, if you put me on a plane back to Nigeria, that plane will crash."

For another caller, the sacrosanctity of tradition is non-negotiable.
