Security: Why Nigeria Should Hire Mercenaries – Fmr DSS Director

A former Director of the Department of State Service, Mike Ejiofor, believes hiring mercenaries in the fight against terrorists will give Nigeria a strong advantage.

Ejiofor said this while responding to recent comments by Nasir El-Rufai, governor of Kaduna, that North-West governors may resort to mercenaries to protect their citizens if the military fails to wipe out bandits.

Speaking on Morning Crossfire, the former DSS Director said mercenaries bring experience, tactical knowledge, strategy, and contacts which is good for the fight against terrorists.

However, the security expert expressed concerns that the Federal Government led by President Buhari may not be comfortable hiring mercenaries.

Speaking further on Nigeria’s battle with terrorists, he advocated an air offensive by the Nigerian Airforce as the solution to displacing terrorists in Kaduna state and its environs.

The former DSS Director said the location of terrorists can be easily identified with the aid of technology and bombarded.
