Security agents have taken over major roads in Kano to enforce the 24-hour curfew imposed by the state government Wednesday night following the ruling of the governorship election tribunal.

The announcement of the All Progressives Congress' Nasiru Gawuna as the winner of the 18 March election caused tension around Kano city with residents scampering home before the close of business.

The city was peaceful on Thursday morning as security agents were stationed at strategic locations.

The police, soldiers, and NSCDC officials conducted stop-and-search operations in areas like State Road, Murtala Mohammed Way, Kabuga, Gwamaja, Sabon Gari, and Audu Bako Road.

Vehicular movement was limited in the usually busy Sabon Gari area but a morning market at New Road by Court Road was operational with food sellers carrying on with business.

Some young boys were also seen playing football on the road.
