Lagos State High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square annex has sentenced to death suspended Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Drambi Vandi, charged with the murder of Lagos-based lawyer Mrs Omobolanle Raheem
Delivering judgment on Monday, Justice Ibironke Harrison convicted ASP Vandi of a one-count charge of murder.
“The court finds the defendant guilty on one count of murder. You will be hanged by the neck till you are dead.” the judge ruled.
Vandi was arraigned on Jan. 16 2023 by the Lagos State Government (Prosecution) arraigned Vandi before the court on a count charge of murder but he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecution alleged that the defendant, ASP Vandi who has now been suspended from the Force, shot Mrs Raheem in the chest on Dec. 25, 2022, at Ajah Roundabout, on Lekki- Expressway, Lagos State.
The Prosecution team led by a former attorney general and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN), called a total of 11 witnesses including eight police officers and subsequently closed its case on Feb. 25.
Justice Harrison held that the prosecution established sufficient oral and documentary evidence linking the defendant to the alleged crime.
