A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has denied a request filed by the Department of State Services (DSS) seeking to keep the suspended Central Bank Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele in detention for an extended 14-day period.

Justice Hamza Muazu struck out the application on the grounds of an abuse of court process, further citing a lack of jurisdiction.

The DSS' application which was discreetly filed by its legal team on Wednesday, was based on purported new evidence discovered.

Mr. Victor Ejelonu, counsel to the DSS opted to withdraw the matter following questioning by the judge about the court’s jurisdiction.

Recall that Emefiele was rearrested by the DSS on Tuesday after a Federal High Court in Lagos had granted him a N20m bail after he was arraigned on a two-count charge of illegal possession of arms and ammunition to which he pleaded not guilty to.
