The National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) faced a firm stance from the House of Representatives as they rejected the proposed increase in electricity tariff.

Honourable Aliyu Madaki presented a motion expressing strong disapproval of the price hike, particularly in light of the recent surge in petrol prices that has already burdened many Nigerians.

Emphasizing the insensitivity of introducing a significant tariff increase while citizens are still grappling with the impact of the petrol price surge, Honourable Aliyu Madaki voiced his concerns.

The House has now taken action by mandating its committee on power, once constituted, to engage in discussions with NERC, to seek mutual understanding and find a middle ground to address the proposed tariff hike, considering the current economic challenges faced by the populace.
