The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disowned a poster circulating on social media claiming that it had reaffirmed the Senator David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The commission described the poster and its accompanying text as fake, saying the publication did not originate from it.
In a notice to the public, INEC said the unauthorized publication used the commission’s logo and the image of its National Commissioner, Mohammed Haruna, without approval.
“For the avoidance of doubt, INEC has issued no such reaffirmation,” the commission said.
The clarification comes amid a leadership dispute within the ADC following a Federal High Court judgment in Abuja that removed the David Mark-led faction and nullified its official actions, including its primary election processes and outcomes.
INEC advised members of the public to disregard the circulating publication and obtain information about the commission only from its official and verified communication channels.
The commission did not provide further details about the origin of the fake poster.
